Every dog is different. Breed, history, personality, their environment. What works for one dog might not work for another, and what looks like a behavioral problem on the surface is usually rooted in environmental factors, past experiences, or specifically due to our human responses to the dog’s behaviors.
Dog Nuance is private, in-home training built around your specific dog and your specific household. I blend obedience, behavioral modification techniques, and enrichment training, along with relationship building between you and your dog.
Dog training is just as much about training the humans as it is the dogs. I teach owners how to read their dog’s body language, recognize stress and pressure, and effectively capture and shape behaviors. With good timing, something as simple as ‘good boy!’ can completely change the dynamic between you and your dog.
I focus on understanding how your dog thinks, leaning into their strengths and passions, and building a cooperative relationship between you and your dog. The goal is trust built through patience and consistency.

My name is Todd. I run Dog Nuance out of the St. Charles and St. Louis areas. I work with a full range of dogs and behaviors: reactivity, aggression, fear, confidence building, teen and puppy training, loose leash walking, enrichment training, and working within large packs of dogs.

Every new client starts with a paid consultation. I come to your home, meet your dog, observe how they function in their home environment. We talk through what you’ve been experiencing, what’s been difficult, and what your training goals are. From there, I start building a picture of your dog and your household, and how you’ll be able to work on your goals.
02
Dog Nuance clients receive a detailed training report built specifically around their dog. This covers obedience goals, behavioral work, enrichment recommendations, leash skills, and immediate focus areas.
Clients also receive a comprehensive training guide covering the foundations of dog training, communication, and the importance of enrichment.
03
Dog Nuance blends three aspects of dog training: obedience, behavioral, and enrichment. A dog with proper enrichment and energy outlets is calmer and more focused during obedience work. A dog with strong obedience skills has better tools to work through behavioral challenges. And behavioral training has lasting results when the dog is fully enriched. This is why we focus on all three aspects.

A big part of every session is coaching you. I train you how to read your dog’s body language, how to use verbal markers with good timing, and how to reinforce good choices in real time.
My job is to make sure you can carry this forward long after our work ends.
05
Dog Nuance is structured as a monthly training partnership. Real behavioral changes take consistency and time. We build on skills every session, adjust the plan as your dog progresses, and work through any challenges.
Your investment in training is matched by my investment in you and your dog, for as long as you remain committed to the work.
If you’re willing to put in the work and genuinely want to understand your dog, I’d love to hear from you.
